Our senses can be ordinary or intelligent. They become ordinary when used primarily for the fulfillment of sensual desires through eating, smelling, seeing, hearing, and touching. Sensual desires mostly include physical pleasures, which never bring fulfillment no matter what amount of energy is expended on them.
Why not? The answer is simple. Just as nothing else lasts, moments of physical pleasure don’t last. As fast as they come, they pass away. Because we find it hard to let go we try to hold on to them. But that has no effect on their transience. Even harder is the memory of pleasantness created by our moments of pleasure. Our memories make us want more pleasure, and the more we try to fulfill our desire, the more we crave what is gone. Thus we remain dissatisfied.
The senses and sensual pleasures combined are a trap. As you will soon realize, there is no way out of this trap unless we make the senses intelligent.
The ordinary senses become intelligent when we use them not to fulfill sensual desires but to develop higher levels of intelligence. Here is how you do that:
Eating only with the intention of providing nourishment to the body. Not eating for the purpose of savoring food. Not eating in reaction to hunger or when the mouth is watering. Not eating to feed cravings. Developing the habit of experiencing delight and contentment in all acts of eating. Click on the link for a specific soul meditation to achieve that.
Transforming the activity of touching into a portal of healing. Our sense of touch has a healing property. Learn to use it to heal yourself and other. Click on the link for a specific soul meditation to achieve that.

Transforming the activity of smelling into a portal for experiencing sanctity, a sense of holiness or sacredness. Similar to the sense of touch, our sense of smell has healing properties. Learn to use it not only to heal yourself of anxiety and stress but also to experience sanctity. Click on the link for a specific soul meditation to achieve that.
Transform the activity of hearing into a portal of entrainment and peace. Here, entrainment means resonating and synchronizing with sound (such as soft music, a mantra, or words spoken in a conversation), becoming one with it, tuning into it. Click on the link for a specific soul meditation to achieve that.

Entrainment gives you a taste of egoless mind (because it temporarily removes separation) and makes you a great listener and a conversationalist. Most importantly, it conserves energy, generates alpha wave rhythms of the human brain, and leads to the experience of peace. Click on the link for a specific soul meditation to achieve that.
Transforming a visual activity into a portal of wholesome enchantment and peace. Wholesome enchantment means experiencing charm, delight, beauty, thrill, wonder, and magic without getting attracted, fascinated, or spellbound. Similar to entrainment, wholesome enchantment gives a taste of egoless mind (because it temporarily removes the illusion of separation) and makes you a great observer and a lover of the world. Most importantly, it boosts energy, generates interest in the extraordinary and wondrous, and leads to the experience of peace. Click on the link for a specific soul meditation to achieve that.
